New Tinder Feature Gives Friends the Power To Swipe Right Your Potential Matches
With the company’s new Matchmaker feature, profiles chosen by friends will be highlighted as 'recommended' for the user
Dating app users often seek input from friends and family, so Tinder's new Matchmaker feature aims to make it easier for friends to play digital Cupid.
Launched Monday, Matchmaker allows users to invite friends onto the app to help them choose potential dates. Friends are sent a link that lets them approve and discard potential matches over a 24-hour period. Although friends are allowed to swipe on profiles, they can’t chat or send messages.
Profiles given a green light by friends are highlighted as “recommended” in the app, Tinder explained. However, the final decision on officially "liking" the recommended profile remains with the main Tinder user.
“For years, singles have asked their friends to help find their next match on Tinder, and now we're making that so easy with Tinder Matchmaker," Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement.
According to Pew Research, in the U.S. 3 in 10 adults used a dating site or app at least once in 2022. More than 50% of the people who used dating apps were under 30, followed by people between 30 to 49 years old (37%).
One-in-ten partnered adults, including those who were married or living with a partner, met their significant other through a dating site or app.
Matchmaker is currently available in 15 countries, including the U.S., Canada, and the UK. Tinder said it plans to roll out the feature globally in the coming months.
