TikTok CEO Will Talk Misinformation, Data Protection with EU Officials
On the agenda is Project Clover, TikTok’s plan to handle Europeans’ personal data with the oversight of a third party
The chief executive officer of TikTok Shou Zi Chew will go to Brussels next week to discuss disinformation, data protection and content moderation with European Union officials on a range of topics including data protection and disinformation,
Chew will meet with European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders and Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton next week, TikTok said on Friday.
On the agenda is Project Clover, TikTok’s plan to handle Europeans’ personal data with the oversight of a third party. How the platform will moderate content ahead of regional elections in 2024 will also be a major item on the agenda.
These sessions are the first meeting between the ByteDance-owned company and the regional body after the European Commission and a few EU nations banned government workers from installing TikTok on their work devices over security concerns.
TikTok is also one of 17 platforms designated as “gatekeepers” under the E.U’s Digital Services Act, which requires the company to submit a transparency report on its content practices twice a year. TikTok released its first report at the end of October.
