Sony Hack: No, You Don’t Need to Delete Your PlayStation Account

After hiring digital forensics experts, the company says the attack caused little disruption

A week after a new group of hackers alleged they’d obtained user information from Sony’s systems, the Japanese company says the breach has had minimal impact on its operations.

For gamers, that means PlayStation accounts are safe, and there’s no need to create another, a situation that had worried some users.

After Sony hired digital forensics experts to study the attack, the company concluded the hack had affected only a single server in Japan used for internal testing. The server has been taken offline, and “there is currently no indication that customer or business partner data was stored on the affected server or that any other Sony systems were affected,” a Sony spokesperson said.

Ransomed.vc, a hacker group founded last month, claimed to have compromised Sony Systems in a ransomware attack, according to CyberDaily, an Australian cybersecurity news site.
