DoorDash Will Now Deliver Electronics From Best Buy
DoorDash is promising to (mostly) bring Best Buy gadgets to customers within an hour
The same delivery person who brings you burgers could soon hand you your next laptop. Best Buy became DoorDash’s first consumer electronics partner on Wednesday, bringing the super fast delivery service usually connected to hot food to devices like TVs, laptops and headphones. DoorDash promises to bring tech to doorsteps around the U.S. in under an hour on average — or at least within the same day the customer places the order. But with a service like this, convenience can come at a price.
Customers ordering from Best Buy can do so in through the DoorDash app, in the same way they would order a box of cookies. They can look through the thousands of electronics at their local Best Buy from within the DoorDash app, pick out a video game, fitness tracker or anything else on display (not every product will be on the app), and check out.
All Best Buy locations nationwide are participating in the DoorDash partnership, and DoorDash says that the Best Buy prices listed on its app will match the ones posted in stores.
Higher-priced electronics can rack up extra fees, however. Ordering a Meta Quest 2 VR headset (currently a $250 value) from a Best Buy less than two miles away gave me about $59.70 in service fees and taxes.
The delivery fee itself was $0, seemingly due to a promotion on my account, and the dasher tip was pre-set to 8%, for an additional $20. The NYC standard of at least 15% in tip would have raised the tip to about $38.

So the cost of getting the Meta Quest 2 within the same day in NYC would be about $100 extra when bought through DoorDash. By contrast, Amazon same-day delivery is free for Prime members who order more than $25 in most cities.
Smaller items through DoorDash incur fewer fees. A $29 AirTag, for example, will cost about $15 more with extra fees and an 8% tip, while a $899 iPad Air will cost an extra $286 in fees with the same tip percentage.
Customers can avoid delivery fees if they sign up for DashPass, DoorDash’s membership program, but even members have to choose eligible Best Buy products and meet order minimums.
To incentivize customers to try out electronics delivery, DoorDash is offering a few coupon codes that expire on December 5. The code BEST15 takes $15 off Best Buy orders of $55 or more, and DashPass subscribers get $25 off Best Buy orders of $55+ using code BEST25.
DoorDash has sped beyond food delivery in the past few years with on-demand retail, grocery and alcohol delivery. The company says that 99% of its U.S. customers can access stores that aren’t restaurants through its app and that it has more than 100,000 non-restaurant businesses on its platform.
Best Buy established a similar partnership with DoorDash competitor Instacart three years ago and has also worked with Shipt for same-day deliveries.
