Zach Wilson Expected to Leave Jets, Was Told of Trade Plans Amid Week 12 Benching: Report
The former No. 2 overall pick had eight touchdowns and seven interceptions through 12 games this season
The Zach Wilson-New York Jets era appears to be at its end, according to The Athletic's Diana Russini at least.
Russini reported Sunday that Wilson will likely be finished with the Jets, though the most notable information is the Jets told Wilson they planned to move him as he was benched before Week 12.
Not only was Wilson demoted, but to third-string behind then-starter Tim Boyle and Trevor Simian.
After the offensive struggled even more at home to the Dolphins and Falcons, Wilson was asked to start again and, per multiple reports, was initially reluctant.
Eventually, he started the Week 14 home game vs. the Texans, which New York won 30-6 in what may have been Wilson's best-ever performance for Gang Green.
The former No. 2 overall pick completed 27-of-36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. During Miami's beatdown of New York the following week, Wilson suffered a concussion late in the first half and did not return.

He has not played for the Jets since and was placed on injured reserve in the lead up to Sunday's regular season finale vs. New England.
After being thrust into the starting role when Aaron Rodgers tore his achilles four snaps into the season, the 24-year-old threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games.
The 2023 season has likely concluded a tumultuous tenure in New York for Wilson after being selected with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft out of BYU.
Playing in 34 games over three seasons, he totaled 6,293 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, 25 interceptions and was sacked 113 times.
