Washington Commanders Could Trade for Bill Belichick: Report
Commanders ownership could be headed toward a rebuild this offseason as Ron Rivera is 25-32-1 at Washington's helm
Head coach Bill Belichick has struggled since Tom Brady's departure in 2020. Now, Belichick himself may be out the door.
The New England Patriots hold the worst record in the AFC (2-6) and haven't won a playoff game since winning the Super Bowl in 2018-19.
Despite a reported contract extension between the franchise and Bill Belichick, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio says there are rumblings around the NFL the Washington Commanders, who seem headed in a new direction under co-owners Magic Johnson and Josh Harris, could move on from Ron Rivera and trade for Belichick in the offseason.
Despite flashes of progression, in four years with Washington, Rivera is 25-32-1.
The Commanders moved on from defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat at Tuesday's trade deadline, and have an opportunistic offseason ahead of them.
Added to a projected $88.7 million in cap space, Washington owns two second and third-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If the Commanders do decide to go in a new direction, a new general manager and/or head coach will have enough resources to formulate a roster in their image.
The most recent head coach trade happened this past offseason when the Denver Broncos acquired Sean Payton from the New Orleans Saints for a 2023 first-round pick, and second and third-round picks in 2024.
