UConn Standout Donovan Clingan Expected to Miss a Month With Foot Injury
The 7-footer averaged 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 13 minutes per game as the Huskies won their fifth national title
UConn standout center Donovan Clingan is expected to miss about a month with a foot injury, the program announced Friday.
The 7-foot-2 sophomore sustained a foot strain in practice earlier this week. He's expected to be fully recovered by late October and the start of the season. Clingan was a member of the All-Big East Freshman team last season, averaging 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 13 minutes per game and helping the the Huskies win their fifth national title.
UConn — a projected top-15 team in 2022-23 — was expecting to rely on Clingan as its starting center after Adama Sanogo, the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player, left for the NBA this past summer.
“Donovan, he’s just got a great personality and a great vibe about him, so everybody loves to coach him and everyone loves being on the team with him because he’s so alive and he’s so much fun to be around,” head coach Dan Hurley told reporters Tuesday, two days before Clingan's injury.
The Huskies tip-off their 2023-24 season on Nov. 6 vs. Northern Arizona.
