Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers left the No. 8 Longhorns' in-state matchup against Houston in the fourth quarter on Saturday with a shoulder injury.

Ewers, 20, returned to the sideline with his right shoulder in a sling. Redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy entered the contest in his absence, going 1-of-2 for seven yards.

Texas went on to win 31-24, leaning on tailback Jonathan Brooks on the game-winning drive.

"Quinn has a hurt shoulder," head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters after the game. "We'll know [more] tomorrow. He tried to play through it."

Ewers, in his second year with the Longhorns, has completed 69.6% of his attempts for 1,704 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. Texas (6-1, 3-1 in the Big 12) hosts BYU next Saturday.

The Longhorns are currently a full game behind Oklahoma for first place in the Big 12, but the No. 5 Sooners hold the tiebreaker over Texas via their 34-30 win in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 7.
