Structure of Colts’ Jonathan Taylor’s Three-Year, $42 Million Extension Contract Revealed: Report
Taylor becomes the second highest-paid running back in the NFL behind Christian McCaffrey
The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Jonathan Taylor to a three-year, $42 million contract extension on Saturday, and details of the contract were reported by NBC Sports on Monday.
The deal makes Taylor the second highest-paid running back in the NFL behind 49ers star Christian McCaffrey.
Mike Florio reports Taylor's deal comes with a $10.248 million signing bonus while his 2023 base salary is $784,556, fully guaranteed.
The 2024 base salary will jump to $7.804 million, fully guaranteed, with a $510,000 per-game roster bonus.
His 2025 base salary will be $11.98 million, $7.152 million of which is guaranteed for injury at signing, with a $1.02 million per-game roster bonus. His 2026 base salary is $11.98 million with a $1.02 million per-game roster bonus.
Speaking postgame Sunday - his first with the team this season - Taylor believes his surprise deal, after a two-month standoff, could have a ripple effect for players at his position.
"I definitely think it is [a shift]," Taylor said, via ESPN. "Anytime a running back can go out there and perform but also have some security, it just shows that running backs are essential."
