Stephen Curry Expresses Interest in 2024 Paris Olympics: “It’s the One Thing I Haven’t Done”

As more NBA veterans announce their intentions to play for Team USA for the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, Stephen Curry is throwing his name in the mix.

At the Golden State Warriors' media day, Curry said that he wants to join the Americans in Paris if "all things stay the same."

"I want to be playing. It's the one thing I haven't done," Curry said. "I definitely want to be there, definitely want to be on the team, and hopefully things line up, that way we're all there."

Curry, a four-time NBA Champion with the Golden State Warriors and two-time NBA MVP, won two FIBA World Cup gold medals with Team USA in 2010 and 2014.

However, he has never participated in the Olympics: The 35-year-old guard withdrew from contention for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro due to a lingering MCL sprain.

Typically, Team USA — coached by Warriors coach Steve Kerr — is made up of young up-and-coming NBA players rather than experienced vets. However, in September, The Athletic reported that LeBron James was recruiting a group of veteran NBA players to join Team USA.

Per the report, James has been in contact with NBA players like Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Jayson Tatum and Anthony Davis, and that all of them, and other top NBA players, are prepared to commit to the team for the Olympics.

On Monday, Durant told reporters at Phoenix Suns media day that he will be playing in the Olympics. Tatum told The Messenger that he also intends to play in Paris next summer.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid said at his media day that he was deciding between Cameroon, France and the United States for the Olympics next summer, as he is eligible to play for any of the three.

Per reports, James, who is 38, and Curry and Durant, who are both 35, are considering Paris as their final competition of their international career, and are hoping to go out strong.

In his statement on media day, Curry also mentioned "the opportunity for Team USA to kind of reassert yourselves as the dominant in the world."

This summer, Team USA ended with a fourth-place finish in the 2023 FIBA World Cup after an upset by Germany, the eventual champions. Curry, among other veterans, has implied that part of the reason for assembling the team of super stars is to reestablish the U.S. as a basketball power on the global stage.
