Armed thieves robbed the St. Louis Cardinals' academy in the Dominican Republic, general manager John Mozeliak confirmed Friday to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

"This was scary on many fronts," Mozeliak said. "Our players and staff were shaken up but not harmed. No one was injured, and we will reassess our security provisions immediately."

The robbers took players out of their rooms and held coaches at gunpoint, according to reporter Héctor Gómez, stealing money and jewelry.

The Cleveland Guardians and Miami Marlins have dealt with similar issues in recent weeks, but there is no word on if the robberies are connected.

Instead of merely taking baseball equipment, personal items and money are now becoming the targets of these robberies.

St. Louis has not released an official statement on the robberies yet.
