Riley Leonard Announces Transfer to Notre Dame After Three Seasons at Duke
Leonard, a junior with two years of eligibility remaining, announced last month that he was leaving Duke and entering the transfer portal
Riley Leonard has found his new home. The former Duke quarterback announced that he is officially transferring to Notre Dame.
Leonard, who went 14-7 as the Blue Devils' starter over the past two seasons, announced he was entering the transfer portal in a Nov. 29 Instagram post. The junior has two years of eligibility remaining.
On Tuesday, he announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish with a video posted to his social media accounts of him walking through Notre Dame Stadium.
After announcing his intent to enter the transfer portal, Leonard placed a "no-contact" tag on his portal entry, meaning other programs couldn't reach out to him, but he could reach out to them.
The 21-year-old, who missed Duke's last four games due to foot and ankle injuries, racked up 43 total touchdowns (24 passing, 19 rushing) during his time with the program.
In 2022, his best college season so far, Leonard threw for 2,967 yards and 20 touchdowns, and led his team to a 9-4 record. This season, Duke went 7-5 and will face off against the Troy Trojans in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 23.
