Peyton Manning Used ‘Tush Push’ in Son’s Youth Football League, Was Told It Isn’t Allowed

The debate over whether the "tush push" should be banned in the NFL has raged on all season. At some levels of football, though, it has already been banned.

During the Week 15 edition of the Manningcast, Peyton Manning said that his son, Marshall, tried the quarterback sneak play during his seventh-grade football league game.

However, it was quickly shot down by the officials.

"We were told after that play, the ref's like, 'Hey, you can't do that,'" Manning, who coaches his son's team, said. "I'm like, 'The Eagles do it in the NFL.' He's like, 'This is not the NFL.'"

The Philadelphia Eagles (10-4) have utilized the play in short-yardage situations all season, with it being nearly unstoppable for opposing defensive fronts.

Many in the sport, including Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and retired NFL quarterback Matt Leinart have no issues with the play.

That doesn't mean it will remain legal. Earlier this month, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants to see the play banned from the league — although a league spokesperson denied the report a few days later.

One thing is clear, though. You won't see Marshall Manning imitating Jalen Hurts anytime soon.
