NFL Announces Multiple Suspensions For Gambling
Four players received suspensions on Thursday
The NFL has announced the suspension of four players for violations of the league‘s gambling policy.
Defensive back Isaiah Rodgers and defensive end Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts, along with free agent defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor, have been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games during the 2022 season. Rodgers and Berry were cut by the Colts on Thursday.
The three players' suspensions will last at least through the 2023 season, and they may apply for reinstatement at the season’s conclusion.
“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions. I know I have made mistakes and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation,” Rodgers said in a statement posted to his social media accounts.
“The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates. I've let people down that I care about. I made an error in judgment and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It's an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this."
ESPN's David Purdum reported that among Rodgers' wagers was a $1,000 prop bet on the over/under for rushing yards by a Colts running back (the bet won).

Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere will serve a six-game suspension at the beginning of the 2023 season for betting on a non-NFL game at the Titans’ team facility.
"We have been made aware of Nick's suspension by the league," the Titans said in a statement on Thursday. "We believe in Nick and know that he has deep respect for the integrity of the game and our organization. We will continue to emphasize to our players the importance of understanding and adhering to league rules and policies."
The NFL does not allow gambling on any sport on league premises, including team buildings, and no betting at all on NFL games.
Thursday’s suspensions bring the NFL’s count to nine in 2023 after five suspensions were issued on Apr. 21. Detroit Lions receivers Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill received six-game suspensions for the same offense as Petit-Frere. Lions teammates Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore, along with Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney, received the same suspensions and stipulations as Rodgers, Berry and Taylor.
