MLB Announces All-Star Game Starters
Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuña finish as top vote getters
Starters for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle were announced on Thursday night.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani received the most votes in the American League while Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. led the way in the National League.
This year's game will also mark the first time that both leagues' lineups will feature rookies: Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will start the game.
Jung is one of four Rangers to make the AL’s starting lineup, along with catcher Jonah Heim, second baseman Marcus Semien and shortstop Corey Seager.
Rounding out the AL will be Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Díaz and outfielder Randy Arozarena, along with Ohtani’s teammate Mike Trout and 2022 AL MVP Aaron Judge.
In the NL, the Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers will each have three players representing them in the starting lineup. Catcher Sean Murphy and shortstop Orlando Arcia join Acuña in representing Atlanta while designated hitter J.D. Martinez, first baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielder Mookie Betts make up the Dodgers’ share of the lineup.
Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez, who is aiming to become the first AL/NL player since Ted Williams in 1941 to bat .400 in a season, and St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado complete the NL lineup.
