The Miami Heat have locked in Erik Spoelstra for the long haul.

Spoestra, the franchise's head coach since the 2008-09 season, has agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth over $100 million with the Heat, according to multiple reports.

The 53-year-old's contract previously expired at the end of this season. His new deal makes him the highest-paid coach in the NBA.

The extension marks a continuation of what has been a highly fruitful partnership. During his 16 seasons with Miami, Spoelstra holds a 725-506 record, and has led the Heat to two NBA titles and four other Finals appearances.

The Heat are 21-15 this year and sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, despite being beset by injuries to Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo and Caleb Martin.
