Max Scherzer Left Off Texas Rangers’ ALDS Roster, Postseason Return Still Possible
Scherzer hasn't pitched since Sept. 12 due to a strained shoulder muscle
Despite throwing a live batting practice on Friday, Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer was left off the Rangers' American League Division Series roster.
Scherzer hasn't pitched since exiting the Rangers’ Sept. 12 win against the Toronto Blue Jays with a strained teres major. However, manager Bruce Bochy said Scherzer could be called up if another pitcher gets injured, clearing the way for a possible return if the Rangers advance to the ALCS.
Left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney will be the Rangers’ Game 1 pitcher against the Baltimore Orioles, and he is expected to be followed by Nathan Eovoldi and Jordan Montgomery.
The Orioles announced that second-year pitcher Kyle Bradish will be their Game 1 starter, followed by rookie Grayson Rodriguez. With John Means left off Baltimore's roster, Dean Kramer and Kyle Gibson are in the running to start in Game 3.
First pitch at Camden Yards is scheduled for 1:03 p.m. ET on Saturday.
