LSU Gymnast Livvy Dunne Stopped Going to Class After School Shooting Threat via Instagram Message: Report

'I had a scare once with a message that I got about a class I was going to, and I was like, you know what, it’s not worth it,' Dunne said

LSU gymnast Olivia "Livvy" Dunne has previously spoken about her decision to stop going to classes in person, but there were reportedly greater safety risks that factored into that decision than just unwanted attention.

Dunne told Elle Magazine in July about her decision to stop going to class, citing previous "scares" and not wanting people to know her daily schedule.

However, an LSU Police report obtained by NJ Advance Media states that Dunne received death threats on Instagram on Dec. 2, 2021, from an apparent stalker who threatened to “shoot up” the university’s campus. Dunne was just a sophomore at LSU at the time, and just at the beginning of her rise to fame due to the NCAA allowing student athletes to profit from NIL earlier that summer.

“I had a scare once with a message that I got about a class I was going to, and I was like, you know what, it’s not worth it,” Dunne told NJ Advance Media. “It was a threat. It seemed like they knew where I was at and what class, and I just decided better [to be] safe than sorry.”

The police report stated that Dunne had received countless unsolicited messages from strangers, but the Dec. 2, 2021 message was the first of the messages to insinuate gun violence, per NJ Advance Media.

Just a few months after that incident, Dunne faced even more concerns for her personal safety and privacy during a trip to Salt Lake City for LSU's season opener against Utah back in January. After the meet, a horde of teenage boys waited outside of Utah's Jon M Huntsman Center for Dunne to exit the venue.

The group chanted wildly at her and her teammates, seen in footage posted by Olympic silver medalist and color commentator Samantha Peszek on X (formerly Twitter).

Police even had to stand in between the crowd of boys and the LSU team bus to prevent them from swarming inside the vehicle to get to Dunne, according to Utah Athletics.

Dunne says that in the aftermath of the incident, her and her team have taken the necessary precautions to fend off obsessed fans over the last year, according to People Magazine.

Dunne has 4.4 million followers on Instagram, 7.4 million followers on TikTok and an NIL valuation of $3.2 million annually, according to On3.

She is heading into her senior season at LSU and will open the season at home against Ohio State on Jan. 5. She recorded a season-high of 9.850 on bars at last year's SEC Championships and was selected as a WCGA Academic All-American her freshman year in 2021.
