Los Angeles Angels’ Shohei Ohtani Undergoes Surgery to Repair Torn UCL
Ohtani officially ended his season Saturday and plans to be ready for Opening Day 2024, but won't pitch again until 2025
Los Angeles Angels two-way star and upcoming free agent Shohei Ohtani underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow, his agent announced.
Ohtani tore his UCL on Aug. 23 and decided to keep playing as a hitter until he cleaned out his locker on Saturday, effectively ending his season after suffering an oblique injury.
The 29-year-old reportedly turned down an MRI to evaluate the elbow three weeks before suffering the injury.
According to the statement, Ohtani plans to be available as hitter as soon as Opening Day next season, and will return to pitching in 2025.
