LOOK: Heisman Candidate Michael Penix Jr. Honors Teammates and Coaches Ahead of Trophy Ceremony
Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. wore a jacket with the names of his teammates and coaches written inside to the Heisman Ceremony
Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. showed up to the Heisman Trophy Ceremony in style, wearing a Husky-purple velvet jacket — with a twist.
Inside, the jacket featured the names of all of Penix's UW teammates and coaches — a touching tribute to the people who have helped him to a stellar 2023 season.
Penix, along with LSU's Jaylen Daniels, Oregon's Bo Nix and Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr., is one of four finalists for the Heisman, awarded to the top player in college football.
Penix, who transferred to Washington from Indiana in 2022, was an expected Heisman finalist. Penix has thrown for 4,218 yards and 33 touchdowns this season, coming up clutch in big moments (especially against Top-25 opponents) and beating top-ranked rival Oregon not once but twice this season, in two thrillingly close games.
Penix led the program to the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, and was also given the Maxwell Award for best player at the College Football Awards on Friday.
Penix is the only finalist on an undefeated team, and the only one in the playoffs. Penix and Daniels are currently considered the frontrunners for the prestigious award, which will be awarded during Saturday night's ceremony.
