Detroit Lions defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson suffered a torn pec in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and is out indefinitely, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

After helping the Philadelphia Eagles win the NFC Championship last season, Garnder-Johnson signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Detroit Lions. The deal included a $4 million signing bonus.

Gardner-Johnson plays both safety positions and fills in as a nickel cornerback, providing versatility that Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was hoping to maximize with rookie Brian Branch Jr., who has a similar skillset.

The Lions had the third-worst total passing defense last season, and are hoping to avoid that again with Gardner-Johnson's injury.

Garnder-Johnson was responsible for Lions fans at Ford Field wearing blue ski masks on Sunday after asking fans on social media to show up wearing them as a symbolic gesture to prove that this year's Lions team had a new identity from year's past. But the Lions lost their home opener to the Seattle Seahawks 37-31 in overtime.
