Leighton Vander Esch Injury: Dallas Cowboys LB Could Miss 4 to 6 Weeks With Neck Injury
Vander Esch has faced several neck injuries, missing seven games in 2019 and three games last season
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch could miss four to six weeks with a neck strain, according to ESPN. That would put him on a timetable to return to the team in mid-November.
On Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy said Vander Esch might head to injured reserve after sustaining the injury during Sunday's 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He collided with teammate Micah Parsons after being pushed by 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams.
McCarthy told reporters X-rays were negative and the team is awaiting MRI results.
Vander Esch, 27, was a first-round pick in 2018. After a career-high 140 tackles in his rookie season, he's faced several neck injuries, missing seven games in 2019 and three games last season. In five starts this season, his sixth as a pro, he has 30 tackles.
The Cowboys (3-2) play the Los Angeles Chargers next Monday night before their bye week.
