LeBron James Recruiting Team of Veterans for 2024 Paris Olympics: Report
James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are planning a last dance next summer with more gold medalists to join
After Team USA's loss to Germany in the FIBA World Cup semifinals, two-time Olympic gold medalist LeBron James hinted at a return to USA Basketball for the 2024 Olympics. On Monday, The Athletic reported James is planning a final curtain call on the international stage.
James has been in contact with fellow gold medalists Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Jayson Tatum and Anthony Davis and two-time World Cup champion Stephen Curry according to Shams Charania. All of them are prepared to commit to Team USA next summer, according to Charania.
Gold medal guards Devin Booker, Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving, as well as All-NBA guard De'Aaron Fox, are also heavily interested in committing to the team, according to Charania.
James, who turns 39 in December, Curry and Durant — who will be 36 and 35, respectively, next summer — view Paris as a last dance for their international careers. It will also be Curry's only Olympic appearance of his career. USA Basketball director Grant Hill is aware of the interest from the NBA's top stars and declined further comment to The Athletic.
Per Charania, James' recruitment efforts aren't in response to Team USA's shortcomings in this year's World Cup; the efforts began before the knockout stages.
The U.S. has won gold in the last four Olympic tournaments. James' group is hoping to make it five.
