La’el Collins Working Out for New York Jets And Giants: Report
Both teams are dealing with injury woes to their respective offensive lines
Both of New York's NFL teams are in the market for an offensive line help. Could veteran right tackle La'el Collins be the solution?
Collins, who was released by the Cincinnati Bengals last month, worked out without with the New York Jets on Tuesday, and is following that up with a visit to the New York Giants, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The 30-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, then joined Cincinnati on a three-year, $21 million contract in March of 2022 -- after he was released by Dallas just days earlier.
Collins tore his ACL and MCL in Week 16 last season and was released by the Bengals in September of this year.
If he were to sign with either team, Collins figures to provide instant help in the trenches. The Jets, who lost Alijah Vera-Tucker for the season with a torn Achilles on Sunday, have allowed 15 sacks on the season (tied for the eighth-most in the NFL).
As for the Giants, injuries to left tackle Andrew Thomas, left guard Shane Lemieux and center John Michael Schmitz have hampered the offensive line. The Giants are last in the NFL in sacks allowed, with 30.
The Jets (2-3) host the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, while the Giants (1-4) face the 3-2 Buffalo Bills on the road Sunday night.
