Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker plans to retire after four seasons at the helm in Houston, according to The Athletic.

Houston, the defending World Series champion, lost 11-4 to the Texas Rangers at home in Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday night. Baker isn't under contract for the 2024 season.

Baker, 74, has managed five clubs during a managerial career dating back to 1993, including the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals and Astros.

He took over in Houston in January 2020 after the franchise fired former manager A.J. Hinch in the wake of its electronic sign stealing scandal. Baker has compiled a 320-226 record with the Astros. He led the club to its second World Series title since 2017 last season.

For his career, Baker is 2,183-1,682. His 2,183 wins rank seventh all-time among managers in MLB history. He was also named the NL Manager of the Year three times in San Francisco.

During his postgame press conference after Game 7, Baker didn't commit to 2024.

“I told the guys I love them and appreciate their effort, appreciate the way they go about their business,” Baker told reporters. “I don’t know, I haven’t had time to evaluate and think about my future because I’m down the list as far as, I’m not that kind of dude."
