The New York Giants and Washington Commanders played a dirty game on Sunday in New York's 31-19 win. Then they didn't even have hot water to wash it off.

An equipment failure at FedEx Field made it so that there was no hot water in the locker rooms, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. As a result, the Giants and Commanders did not have hot water for showers.

When asked about the lack of hot water after the game, rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito joked, "Pfft, you see my hair?"

A Commanders' spokesperson said that the main water heater, which services the locker rooms on the field level, was broken, but that it couldn't be repaired without shutting off water to the entire stadium. As a result, the issue couldn't be fixed during the game.

Multiple players were ejected from the game in the first half after a fight broke out when Commanders quarterback Sam Howell scored a rushing touchdown.

FedEx Field, home of the Commanders, is one of the lowest-valued stadiums in the league and has been frequently cited as one of the worst NFL stadiums, ranked as the worst by USA Today and The Athletic.

The stadium is known for poor facilities and has had multiple incidents in the past few years. In 2021, a pipe burst in the stadium during a game, pouring water on fans; while spectators swore the water was "sewage," Washington stated that it was just rainwater.

In January 2022, a railing broke, sending Philadelphia Eagles fans tumbling into the path of quarterback Jalen Hurts, who later wrote to the Commanders' organization and the NFL urging them to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Concerns about the stadium eventually kept it from being selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is largely hosted in the United States. FIFA selected 11 cities to host; Washington, D.C. is not one of them.

At the end of August, Commanders announced a plan to invest $40 million into upgrading the stadium. According to the press release, the renovations will focus on improving "fan experience," with new suites, new ticket scanning and team branding around the stadium; the upgrades also appear to include maintenance repairs and new paint.

On Sunday, the Giants won 31-19, moving New York to 3-8 while Washington fell to 4-7.
