The Cleveland Browns announced Wednesday that quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the remainder of the NFL season as he prepares to undergo shoulder surgery.

Per Tom Pelissero, Watson wanted to be medicated to play through the injuries so he sought multiple medical opinions.

However, he did not receive the outcome he wanted as doctors made it clear that if he got hit again in the same spot, the shoulder could fall apart.

Watson underwent an MRI on two separate injuries following the Browns stunning 33-31 comeback victory on the road Sunday in Baltimore.

He had been battling shoulder injuries throughout the season, including missing two full games and three quarters of another.

The MRI revealed that he had "a displaced fracture to the glenoid", meaning the socket portion of the shoulder joint.

Watson will now be placed on season-ending injured reserve as the Browns will now likely turn to backup P.J. Walker, who has filled in when Watson missed time.

In six games, Watson tallied 1,115 throwing yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. In three games, Walker has thrown for 618 yards, a single touchdown and five interceptions.

Cleveland currently sits at 6-3 in a loaded AFC North, led by the 7-3 Ravens. The Browns will need to reset quickly as the 6-3 Steelers come to town for a pivotal division matchup.
