Deshaun Watson Plays Through Multiple Injuries To Lead Browns’ Comeback Victory at Ravens

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson wasn't going to let injuries keep him off the field Sunday as he led the Browns to a comeback victory at the Baltimore Ravens.

Watson played through ankle and shoulder injuries Sunday as Cleveland faced a 14-point fourth quarter deficit. However, his perfect completion percentage in the second half helped the Browns stun the first-place Ravens, 33-31. Watson told reporters after the game he will have to be in a walking boot, but it wasn't going to keep him off the field.

"I got my shoulder a little banged up but I pushed through it, then my ankle got rolled up on," Watson told Fox's Shannon Spake after the game. "But I'll do whatever I can to be back out there with my teammates and we dealt with adversity in the first half, but we bounced back, we never quit."

After completing just six of 20 passes in the first half, Watson went back to the locker room early just before halftime with an apparent lower leg injury. He came up limping after he was dropped for a 1-yard loss in the red zone with 1:22 left in the second quarter. Then he aggravated the injury on an incomplete pass with 11 seconds remaining in the half.

But he returned after halftime and went a perfect 14-for-14 passing in the second half, throwing for 139 yards and one touchdown to complete the comeback.

The Browns won on a last-second, 40-yard field goal by kicker Dustin Hopkins. They trailed the Ravens 40 seconds into the game and did not lead until the field goal as time expired.  They trailed for 59 minutes and 20 seconds, which is the most in a win since at least 2000, per ESPN Stats and Information.

"That's the foundation of the Cleveland Browns," Watson said. "It starts with the foundation of toughness, that's what we preached all week. 'Who's going to play 60 minutes the hardest and the toughest?'"

Watson had been plagued by injuries this season prior to the game, having missed three games with two injuries and leaving his Week 7 start against the Indianapolis Colts in the first quarter with injury as well.

Watson returned last week and led the Browns to a 27-0 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Now, the Browns hold a 6-3 record, and are just half a game behind the Ravens for first place in the AFC North.

Despite needing a walking boot after the game, Watson told reporters that he would be "fine" for Cleveland's Week 11 game against Pittsburgh Steelers — who hold the tiebreaker against Cleveland for second place in the division.
