Dan Campbell Says Lions’ Form ‘Not Good Enough’ Despite 9-3 Record: ‘We Want More’

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell isn't easily impressed, nor was he satisfied as his team moved to 9-3 following a 33-28 road win vs. New Orleans.

The Lions jumped out of the blocks in Louisiana to lead 21-0 and then 24-7 at the half. After the break, the Saints stormed back, closing the deficit to 24-21 halfway through the third quarter.

Ultimately, New Orleans never took the lead as Detroit won out 33-28 thanks to a fourth down stop by the Lions' defense with 3:01 remaining.

"It’s a good win by the guys, but it’s not good enough," Campbell said, via 97.1 The Ticket. "It’s not good enough and our guys know that. There’s more out there and we want more."

Detroit (9-3) sits comfortably atop the NFC North despite its shaky form in recent weeks, and notwithstanding Green Bay's (6-6) three-game win streak. In fact, Minnesota is in second place with its .500 record.

The Lions needed some fourth-quarter magic to beat Chicago three weeks ago and were vastly outplayed by the Packers on Thanksgiving.

Across that span, 30 of the 73 points allowed have come in the third quarter. In the case of the Chicago and New Orleans games, it was the most points given up of any quarter.

"Man, we just keep tinkering with it," Campbell said of the Q3 lapses. "I think we continue to say, ‘Alright, what is going to be best to get us going on offense? Defensively, do we need to calm things down, or maybe we need to just pressure it a little bit more coming out after halftime.'

"So, listen, believe it or not, we just continue to try to do a little bit of everything, but we’re not going to lose sight of it."

Detroit faces the Bears (4-8) for the second time in a month this Sunday, this time on the road at Soldier Field.

"They’ll be ready to go this week, man," Campbell said of the divisional foe. "Chicago, we know what they are and they’re coming off a bye. This’ll be a big week for us.”
