Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Is Going to Be a Father — Micah Parsons Warns Him of Intense Sleep Loss
'There's going to be a lot of sleepless night, and your days off aren't really days off anymore,' Parsons warned Prescott of fatherhood
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expecting his first child with his girlfriend Sarah Jane Ramos in March, the couple announced this week.
They will be having a daughter.
Prescott told reporters on Monday that his coming daughter has made him reflect on his relationship with his mom.
"I know what my mom meant to me, means to me, and to be able to, in a sense, have that feeling in a different role is something I look forward to, my family is looking forward to," Prescott said. "I'm blessed."
However, his teammate, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons warned Parsons that fatherhood may also cause him to reflect on his relationship with his bed.
“Have that guest room ready," Parsons told reporters on Monday. "Have that guest room ready because I love my daughter to death, but when she sleeps with me and she’s waking up at three or four in the morning, wanting that bottle, just have that guest room ready. Set everything up in the guest room. There’s going to be a lot of sleepless nights, and your days off aren’t really days off anymore. Be very, very prepared.”
Despite the fact that Parsons, 24, is six years younger than Prescott, 30, he will be a father more than a year longer than his veteran quarterback. Parsons announced that he welcomed his own daughter into the world back on Jan. 14 one day before the team's 31-14 playoff victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So Parsons is aware of how much sleep can be lost to early fatherhood.

Prescott has previously expressed how important his sleep quality is to him. He has even partnered with mattress manufacturers to promote their products, and those commercials are among the ones he's most recognized for as a promotor.
Prescott has even said that the fact that his players are allowed to sleep in their own beds the night of a home game, as opposed to spending a night in a hotel, plays a huge role in his personal home-field advantage, according to ESPN.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said that it plays a huge role for Prescott, but the Cowboys' whole team, per ESPN.
"I think when you do have a chance to go home, there's the excitement of getting up and getting going," McCarthy said. "I think we all sleep better in our own bed."
As the Cowboys' quarterback, sleep plays an important role in Prescott's duties as a quarterback.
Sleep quality and quantity plays directly into several physical and mental aspects that are critical for wide receivers. It impacts reaction time, mental alertness, muscular recovery. It also plays into the brain's ability to maintain information as memories, which is essential for memorizing offensive plays.
Tom Brady, who had a notoriously strict lifestyle during his playing career, told Sports Illustrated in 2014 that he also makes it a priority to try and be asleep by 9 p.m. every night.
Other star athletes, including Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama and LA Rams rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua, also try to sleep by 9 p.m.
