Commanders’ Jonathan Allen Is Tired of ‘The Same S— Every Year’ — How Much Has He Been Through in Washington?
Allen has gone through five losing seasons and two team name changes in his seven-year career with the team
The Washington Commanders 14-7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday was a tough one for defensive tackle Jonathan Allen.
The 28-year-old Pro Bowler voiced his displeasure with the state of his team over the course of his seven-year NFL career in an explicit tirade to reporters after the game.
"I'm f---ing tired of this s---," Allen said when asked if it was frustrating. "It's been seven f---ing years of the same s---, tired of this s---."
Allen has spent his entire seven-year NFL career in Washington after being drafted with the 17th overall pick out of Alabama in 2017. During his four-year career in Tuscaloosa from 2013-16 the Crimson Tide went a combined 51-6 and won the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2015.
Prior to that, he starred at Stone Bridge High School in Virgina. The Stone Bridge Bulldogs also went a combined 51-6 during his four-years there, with several deep runs in the state playoffs, according to MaxPreps.
Allen, like many athletes coming into the NFL out of dominant college and high school backgrounds, didn't have much experience losing. But he had to get used to losing quickly in Washington.

The franchise hasn't had a winning season since Allen was drafted in 2017. It made the playoffs one with a 7-9 record in 2020 amid a historically bad NFC East divisional race. Then it lost to the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.
Not only that, but during Allen's career the franchise has had to go through an ownership change, two name changes and multiple scandals under previous owner Dan Snyder.
There could even possibly be a third name change under the new ownership group, according to new part owner Magic Johnson.
After a 2-0 start to this season, Washington has now fallen to 3-4 and are firmly in third place in the NFC East.
Allen signed a four-year $72 million contract extension with Washington in 2021, so financially he will be okay no matter how bad the team is. But he also won't be a free agent until the end of the 2025 season, when he will be 31 years old.
