Colts’ Anthony Richardson to Undergo Shoulder Surgery and Miss the Rest of the Season
Richardson suffered a shoulder injury in his throwing arm during the Colts' Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans, and was place on injured reserve
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a shoulder injury, the team announced Wednesday.
Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing arm (right) in the Colts' Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans. He was placed on the Injured Reserve list later that week.
In a statement from owner Jim Irsay posted to the Colts' social media, Irsay wrote that the decision for Richardson to receive surgery was reach after consulting with Indianapolis' medical staff, citing the rookie quarterback's long-term health.
"Anthony is a competitor, and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team," Irsay wrote, adding that they anticipate that Richardson will make a full recovery. "There is no doubt Anthony has a promising future."
As of now, Indianapolis backup Gardner Minshew is expected to continue to play under center for the Colts ahead of the team's Week 7 matchup against the Cleveland Browns Sunday.
