Chiefs vs. Eagles Was the Most-Watched Monday Night Football Game in 27 Years and Taylor Swift Wasn’t Even There

More than 28 million viewers tuned in to watch the Philadelphia Eagles avenge their Super Bowl LVII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

The game garnered 15.55 million viewers from ABC, 11.49 million from ESPN and 1.92 million viewers from ESPN 2's Manningcast, making it the most-watched Monday Night Football regular season game since 1996.

Only the Monday night Wild Card playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tom Brady's last NFL game has more views for a Monday Night game in the 21st century, which only topped Eagles-Chiefs by less than three million viewers.

ESPN and Disney managed to pull off the record audience with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce's girlfriend Taylor Swift in attendance. Swift previously helped another network cross a viewership threshold while attending a Chiefs game when Kansas City played the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football on Oct. 1. That game drew 27 million viewers — making it the most-watched Sunday TV show since the last Super Bowl, according to NBC Sports.

However, Swift was unable to attend this past week's Chiefs game due to one of her rescheduled concerts. Her Nov. 18 concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was rescheduled to Nov. 20 due to sweltering heat levels, and she was unable to fly back in time to make the game.

Swift, who has said she grew up an Eagles fan, has rooted for the Chiefs at every game she has attended this year, so she was spared from having to pick between her childhood team and new boyfriend's team.

With Swift not in attendance, Kelce scored one touchdown and had 44 total yards. It was one of his best performances with Swift not in attendance this year, but still upkeeps an ongoing trend of him being generally less productive when she isn't there to watch him in person vs. when she is there this season.

The record audience watched Kelce, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs offense fail to score at all in the second half, as Kansas City blew a 17-7 halftime lead amid an offensive stalemate, as the Eagles rallied to win 21-17.
