Prior to tip-off in Thursday night's preseason matchup between the Brooklyn Nets and Israel's Maccabi Ra'anana, the teams observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of the Hamas attacks in Israel.

"The Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center condemn the terrorist attacks and mourn the senseless loss of life in Israel," the PA announcer at Barclays Center said.

"We stand together against terror, and our thoughts are with all who have been impacted by these tragic events."

Before the game, Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn told reporters that the team had discussed the Hamas-Israel war.

"We got together as a group and I talked about just being able to have compassion, to try to educate yourself on what’s going on, and I think a big part of that is having empathy," Vaughn said.

"It’s hard to really put yourself in someone else’s shoes. We talked about how grateful we are that we do get an opportunity to play tonight, and that we get an opportunity to be around each other.”

On Wednesday, Nets center Nic Claxton, who was ruled out prior to the game due to glute soreness, expressed his concern about moving forward with the game.

"We feel for them," Claxton said Wednesday. "I don’t think we should be playing the game personally. There’s bigger things than basketball going on."
