Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase Agreed to Grab a TV Camera After a Touchdown — Chad Ochocinco Will Pay the Fine

The Cincinnati Bengals have not escaped the influence of Chad Ochocinco just yet.

Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase told reporters Thursday that he would do a famous touchdown celebration that Ochocinco coined for the Bengals in the 2000s.

Ochocinco, who was notorious for over-the-top touchdown celebrations deemed "endearing" by some and "classless" by others, once got an expensive piece of broadcast equipment involved. One of the former All-Pro wide receiver's celebrations featured him kicking a camera man out of from behind an end zone video camera, and taking his place, using the camera at his own whim.

The action would come with a lofty fine in today's NFL, which is why Chase only agreed to do it if Ochocinco agreed to pick up the fine for him, Chase told reporters on Thursday.

"Chad, if I score a touchdown and grab the camera like you did, I need you to pay the fine for me, that's all," Chase said.

Ochocinco agreed to Chase's deal in a post on X (formerly Twitter) later in Thursday.

"Say less, I'll pay the fine," Ochocinco wrote.

Ochocinco played for the Bengals from 2001-10, making six Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pro nods. He last played in the NFL in 2011 for the New England Patriots, but since his retirement, he's made an effort to maintain his influence on the Bengals locker room culture from afar through friendships with active players.

Ochocinco previously said he told Chase to follow another one of his unique customs as an NFL player — eating McDonald's before games. Ochocinco said he not only convinced Chase to do so, but multiple Bengals players as well during the team's run to Super Bowl LVI in the 2021 season.
