Aaron Rodgers Says It Would Be ‘So Fun to Have a Glass of Scotch’ With Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick and Aaron Rodgers have long admired each other.

Belichick, whose New England Patriots (4-13) closed out their season with a 17-3 to the Rodgers-less New York Jets (7-10) in Week 18, had a pregame chat with the 40-year-old quarterback.

With his future in New England still uncertain, it may have been the last time he spoke with Rodgers as the Patriots head coach.

That fact was not lost on the four-time NFL MVP, but Rodgers said during his weekly Tuesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that the two didn't discuss Belichick's future with New England. Instead, their conversation centered around Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers facing the New York Giants in a snow game in December of 2019.

To Rodgers, it was another example of Belichick's uncanny knowledge of football history.

"I just think it'd be so fun to have a glass of Scotch with Bill and talk ball, because [of] his knowledge of the game, his ability to recall things," the 10-time Pro Bowler said. "He was recalling these two specific plays that we had from the game, and obviously I can do that, I made those plays, but Bill was on the sidelines, and he's talking about these plays he saw on film and different things."

Rodgers, who said that he first met Belichick at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament "over a decade ago", played against the Patriots three times during his Packers days — in 2014, 2018 and last season. Twice, he got the upper hand on New England.

Now that the Patriots' season is over, the focus has shifted to whether Belichick will be on the sidelines come Week 1 of the 2024 season. On Monday, though, he told reporters that it's "way too early" to discuss his future with the franchise.

Plus, Rodgers said that 71-year-old is not "done" — implying that even if he parts ways with New England, Belichick could be coaching another team next season.

However, the sheer possibility of a split has the longtime signal caller appreciating the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach's career.

"I think the NFL is better with him in it, and I'm thankful for all the little moments I've gotten to share with Bill over the years, and just tell him how much I respect and believe what a great impact he's made on the game," Rodgers added.
