49ers QB Brock Purdy Clears Concussion Protocol, Expected To Start vs. Bengals
The 49ers will likely be counting on Purdy to avoid losing a third consecutive game
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy cleared concussion protocol Saturday, the team announced. He's expected to start Sunday vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
Purdy took a hit to the head during the 49ers' Week 7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and had been in concussion protocol ever since. He's completed 67.9 percent of his passes this season for 1,668 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy had to clear the last steps of the protocol to start Sunday. Backup Sam Darnold would start for San Francisco if Purdy hadn't cleared concussion protocol.
Kickoff Sunday between the 49ers (5-2) and the Bengals (3-3) is slated for 4:25 p.m. ET. The 49ers, with a half-game lead over the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West, will be counting on Purdy to avoid losing a third consecutive game.
