The White House on Monday joined Threads, a text-based social media platform similar to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Along with the general White House profile, accounts were also created for President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden; Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff; and La Casa Blanca, an account in Spanish for the White House.

"You're hearing from me today from a new platform, but my message to you hasn't changed: Right now, we face an inflection point – one of those challenging moments in history where the decisions we make today will determine decades to come," Biden wrote in his first post. "But I don't see a dark, dismal, divided future for America. I see an America about to take off. I'll continue doing everything in my power to meet this moment – and keep you posted along the way."

Threads is owned by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, and a user account can be easily accessed from Instagram. The White House move comes as Elon Musk's X platform has faced criticism from the White House.

Earlier in November, the White House criticized Musk's posts on X, calling them a "abhorrent promotion of Antisemitic and racist hate."
