Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin's political operation raked in more than $7 million in the third fundraising quarter ahead of the state's November elections.

CBS News was first to report on Youngkin's haul, which included more than $4 million raised in the final 48 hours of the three-month fundraising period. Billionaire Jeff Yass donated $2 million to the Spirit of Virginia PAC, a group supporting Youngkin, while the governor donated 500,000 himself.

GOP donor Thomas Peterffy also contributed more than $1 million to Youngkin's PAC. Peterffy previously called Youngkin an "ideal candidate" for Republicans in the 2024 presidential race.

Democrats have also upped their spending in Virginia as all 140 state legistlative seats are up for grabs. With Youngkin supporting a 15-week abortion ban, the state is seen as a major battleground in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned.

Youngkin is also reportedly hosting major donors at a retreat later this month.
