Tuberville Won’t End Months-long Military Blockade Amid Escalating Tensions in Israel and Gaza Strip
The statement from his office comes amid worsening tensions in the Middle East after Israel declared war on Hamas following a massive military campaign
Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s office Monday confirmed his months-long blockade delaying hundreds of military promotions won’t end amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
POLITICO was the first to report on the news.
“The Pentagon clearly thinks forcing taxpayers to facilitate abortion is more important than confirming their top nominees without a vote. They could end this situation TODAY by dropping their illegal and immoral policy and get everyone confirmed rapidly, but they refuse,” Steve Stafford, a spokesperson for the senator, told NBC News in a statement.
“If the Biden administration wants their nominees confirmed then Senate Democrats can do what Coach just did in September and file a cloture petition to force a vote.”
Nearly 300 military promotion are on hold as Tuberville, R-Ala., protests a new policy from the Pentagon that allows the federal agency to cover travel costs of members seeking abortions across state lines.
