Tuberville Blasts White House: ‘Would Rather Burn Down the Senate Than Negotiate’

Tuberville's criticism comes from the recent proposal to change Senate rules to allow for the voting of military nominations

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., who has been blocking military promotions for nine months now, on Sunday criticized the Biden administration for refusing to negotiate on the issue.

“It’s typical of this place. This administration would rather burn the Senate down and that’s what would happen,” Tuberville told CNN’s Manu Raju. “So they would rather burn down the Senate than negotiate.”

His criticism comes from the recent proposal to change Senate rules to allow for the voting of said positions, which have now climbed to hundreds of stalled nominations.

“If they go around and, without negotiating, change the rules of the Senate it just goes to show you they want it their way or the highway,” the Alabama senator continued.

Tuberville has refused to approve mass confirmation of large numbers of military appointments and promotions in protest of the Pentagon's policy of paying for travel for personnel seeking abortion health care.
