Trump Attacks Haley Over Social Security Policies in New Ad
'Americans were promised a secure retirement. Nikki Haley's plan ends that,' Trump's ad says
Former President Donald Trump released a new video ad on Thursday attacking fellow GOP candidate Nikki Haley over her plans for social security, which include raising the retirement age.
"Americans were promised a secure retirement. Nikki Haley's plan ends that," the ad says.
Haley has faced criticism for her social security comments before — most recently by GOP rival and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who made similar arguments earlier in January. In response, Haley said that was a misrepresentation of the facts.
"But rather than saying you’re not going to touch [Social Security], like Ron says, we have to touch it," she explained. "But we have to also be honest and over-communicate with those in their 20s that this is what we’re going to do."
She clarified her plan was to raise the retirement age for Americans in their 20s, but maintain it for older Americans.
Trump had also claimed Haley wanted to “decimate” Social Security at a rally in Iowa in early January.

During the Wednesday night CNN debate between DeSantis and Haley, the topic came up again, and similar arguments were made.
"I don’t see how you can raise the retirement age when our life expectancy is collapsing in this country,” the Florida governor said, bringing back Haley's explanation that the age should be raised to follow a changing life expectancy.
In response, Haley reminded DeSantis of how he voted to raise the retirement age multiple times during his time in Congress.
