Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in an interview Thursday that his administration is using every tool short of killing migrants to stop people illegally crossing the border. To open fire would invite murder charges — from the Biden administration, he noted.

"We are deploying every tool and strategy we possibly can," Abbot said in an interview with Dana Loesch. "The only thing that we're not doing is we're not shooting people who come across the border because, of course, the Biden administration would charge us with murder."

Texas House Bill 393 went into effect on Friday, requiring that drunk drivers who kill a parent in a collision pay child support for a child until they reach 18 years of age or have graduated from high school, whichever comes later.

Abbott has been at odds with the Biden administration asthe governor has taken steps including installing buoys with razors in the Rio Grande, busing migrants to cities with Democratic mayors and passing a state law that makes border crossing a state crime.

The Biden administration has charged that Abbott's actions violate the federal government's constitutional authority to have sole charge of borders and immigration.

Critics on Twitter erupted over Abbott's comments.
