Subpoena of Hunter Biden Bank Records Could Come This Week

Republicans have made a subpoena of Hunter and James Biden one of the first major moves of their impeachment inquiry

A congressional subpoena for the personal bank records of first son Hunter Biden and his uncle, James Biden, could come as soon as this week, signaling the first major move in the impeachment probe of the president.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told reporters on Tuesday that his panel could issue the subpoenas for bank records from the Biden family this week. Comer said the House GOP was still finalizing paperwork for the impeachment inquiry.

"Once all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed, I expect to issue a subpoena for Hunter and James Biden's personal bank records," Comer said.

House Republicans launched an impeachment inquiry into Biden earlier this month, signaling the party was moving closer to approaching the White House and the Biden family for sensitive financial information.

Hunter Biden is at the middle of the House impeachment investigation. Republicans for months have scrutinized his overseas business deals, and whether his father benefitted from his son's business ventures.

Republicans have also circled a claim that then-Vice President Biden was implicated in a bribery scheme in Ukraine, where Hunter Biden served on the board of an energy firm. The GOP investigation has yet to unearth evidence tying Biden to the alleged bribery scheme or his son's business dealings.
