Sen. Chuck Schumer to Lead Congressional Delegation to Israel

While on the trip, Schumer will meet with Israeli leaders to 'discuss what resources the United States can provide to support Israel on all fronts'

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will be leading a congressional delegation to Israel this weekend "to show the United States’ unwavering support for Israel."

Schumer — who notes in the statement announcing the trip that he is the highest ranking Jewish official "in the United States history" — will meet with Israeli leadership to "discuss what resources the United States can provide to support Israel on all fronts.”

Others joining Schumer on the trip include: Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La.; Jacky Rosen, D-Nev.; Mitt Romney, R-Utah; and Mark Kelly, D-Ariz.

Hamas killed 1,300 Israelis in its surprise attack on Saturday. An unknown number of hostages have also been taken by Hamas.

The United States has pledged its support for Israel, with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin saying Friday that he had "ordered additional [military] assets to the region to bolster deterrence."
