Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., attacked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at Wednesday's GOP debate over DeSantis's comments about Florida's controversial new African American history curriculum, which teaches that some African Americans derived "personal benefit" from being enslaved.

"There is not a redeeming quality in slavery," Scott said, adding that DeSantis should have "just taken the sentence out" of the curriculum.

Scott's comments came after DeSantis defended education standards in Florida, which he stressed are showing other states "how it's done."
