Report: Special Counsel Using Los Angeles Grand Jury in Ongoing Hunter Biden Probe

The use of the grand jury could indicate Special Counsel David Weiss may be preparing to seek new charges against the president’s son

Special counsel prosecutors are using a Los Angeles grand jury to gain access to documents and possible testimony from witnesses in the ongoing Hunter Biden probe.

CNN was the first to report the news after several sources familiar with the probe said that President Joe Biden’s brother James, who was a one-time business associate of Hunter Biden, is among those who received a subpoena in recent weeks.

Sources said the probe appears to be examining Hunter Biden's alleged failure to pay his taxes, an issue that was expected to be resolved earlier this year in a plea deal that later fell apart.

It's unclear at this time if investigators are looking at any matters beyond tax payments, or if any witnesses have appeared in-person to date.

The use of the grand jury could indicate that Special Counsel David Weiss may be preparing to seek new charges against the president’ son. Weiss has already brought gun charges against Hunter in Delaware.

Abbe Lowell, Hunter Biden’s attorney, did not respond to The Messenger's request for comment.

Sources added that this is not the first instance of Weiss using a grand jury in the case. He previously used a federal grand jury in Delaware to gather evidence for his investigation in Hunter Biden's business dealings and failure to pay his taxes. Prosecutors brought several witnesses to testify to the Wilmington grand jury last year before striking the plea deal.
