President Biden Congratulates Michigan Wolverines for NCAA Title Win
'You've made every American who dons the Maize and Blue proud,' said Biden in a statement
President Joe Biden congratulated the University of Michigan for winning the NCAA Football Championship on Monday.
"Today, you are true victors – bringing your team's first championship win since 1997 home to Ann Arbor," said Biden in a post on social media. "You've made every American who dons the Maize and Blue proud."
The Wolverines beat the Washington Huskies 34-13, capping an undefeated 15-0 season. It is Michigan's 12th national championship and coach Jim Harbaugh's first title since taking over the team in 2015.
Biden is currently seeking to turn around poor polling in Michigan, where recent polls have shown former President Donald Trump leading in a possible general election rematch between the pair.
Biden won the state by nearly 3% in the 2020 election but finds himself 4 percentage points behind Trump in recent polls. Trump won the state by less than 1% in 2016.
