Poll: Trump Leads Biden As Majority Disapprove Of His Job Performance
In a head-to-head matchup, Trump led Biden, 45%-41%
A majority of voters disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance, and he trails former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup more than a year away from the 2024 general election.
The poll, conducted September 18-23 among 3,024 registered voters, found that 40% approve of Biden’s job performance as president, while 56% disapprove.
In a head-to-head matchup, Trump led Biden, 45%-41%.
Trump is backed by 86% of Republicans, while 80% of Democrats backed Biden. Independents were narrowly split — Thirty-nine percent backed Trump, 38% backed Trump, and 23% said they were unsure.
A majority of voters (67%) continue to believe that Biden, 80, should not run for a second term. That includes 44% of Democrats and 72% of Independents.
The findings of the latest Messenger/Harris poll align with the previous survey conducted September 13-19, which found Trump led Biden, 46%-41%.
The current RealClearPolitics polling average of the general election has Trump ahead of Biden, 45.4%-44.3%.

Even though Biden appears to be slumping in the polls, The Messenger reported that his campaign is not worried about the dismal numbers yet, pointing to Democratic victories in special elections as a better indicator of support.
Trump remains the heavy favorite to secure a third straight GOP presidential nomination. In the national GOP primary, 60% backed Trump, 11% backed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and 8% backed venture capitalist Vivek Ramaswamy. Eight percent said they were unsure. All other candidates were at 4% or less.
The poll was taken before last night’s debate, where Trump’s challengers did little to change the current dynamics of the primary.
When GOP voters were asked who they would support if their preferred candidate was not available, 26% said they would back DeSantis, 15% said they would back Ramaswamy, and 10% said they would back former Vice President Mike Pence.
The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 percentage points.
