Pelosi Praises Vice President Harris After Declining To Say She’s Biden’s Best Running Mate
The former House Speaker acknowledged some feel her praise of the vice president is not 'wholesome enough'
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., offered nothing but praise for Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday, divorcing herself from previous remarks in which she declined to say if Harris was President Joe Biden's best running mate for 2024.
The former House Speaker earned pushback after a CNN interview last week, which CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Pelosi if she thought Harris was the best choice for 2024. "He thinks so," Pelosi said, "and that's what matters." She did not directly say the vice president actually was best suited.
In a Sunday interview with MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart, Pelosi said some found her praise of Harris not "wholesome enough."
"If you're there to criticize her, accept the fact that there are people who are very devoted to her and who support her and first among them is the president of the United States," she said, noting she praised Harris "astuteness" in the CNN interview.
Pelosi said the Biden/Harris ticket is "up there with Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson." She also praised the pair's "great camaraderie."
The Democrat argued those arguing the vice president is not best for the job are trying to "interject some disarray in how we go forward."
"She's our candidate, upward and onward," Pelosi insisted.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., also threw his support behind Harris in a Sunday interview.
Jeffries was asked about Pelosi's tepid CNN comments during he interview he gave to ABC News' "This Week."
"Far be it for me to ever speak for Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi, the greatest Speaker of all times," Jeffries said. "She's very capable of answering that question on our own. I will say that Vice President Harris has been a great vice president. She’ll be a great running mate. She has been a tremendous partner in the things that President Biden has been able to accomplish."
